Gradual Progress in Running Training and in Recovery from Injury

Posted by Keith McConnell on Tue Apr 26th, 2011, 1 comments

Running at different speeds can be a lot of fun - and it can be a temptation and a path leading to running injuries. A recent experience in my running training demonstrated this phenomenon and has reminded me of the importance one of the core principles in the Chi Runing model, that of Gradual Progress, that I'd like to share today.

Running Form Track Workout

Posted by Laura Houston on Mon Feb 21st, 2011, 4 comments

My favorite venue for running is out in the mountains and forests. While I love these runs,  I've been inspired by Danny's Boston marathon training updates and other instructors' talk of track workouts to get in some consistent flat running for form work. I took Alice Diffely's Form Focus Sequence workout (November 2008 Chi Living Newsletter) to the track today. Here's how it went (with a few modifications; reference to book noted):

Running Intervals

Posted by Michelle Muldoon on Wed Jan 19th, 2011, 1 comments

I am happy to say that I have had another excellent weeks running for week 7 of Half Marathon training which included a 5k race, the first 5k I've run in 4 years! It's nice to dip my toe in the water and I shall run more of them this year to see where I am with my training...

Using Chi Running principles to help navigate slippery rocks and leaves

Posted by Elizabeth Frost on Sun Nov 1st, 2009, 0 comments

As you’ll see from the photo on the November newsletter, Asheville is ablaze with color. As the leaves fall to the ground, they bring the color to our feet… combine the leaves with rain, however, and you get a somewhat treacherous path. We took Oliver for a hike yesterday in the drizzling rain. We went [...]

LSD, oh how I love you. (this is a long entry)

Posted by Elizabeth Frost on Sun Oct 26th, 2008, 5 comments

Today was my first 10 run. Not ten miles (though close), but 10 on the infamous scale. Really, it was incredible. I think the mapmyrun.com version isn’t quite as much distance as I ran, but it might be my happiness/ego getting in the way. I was supposed to do 1:45 hrs, but only did 1:33 [...]

slobbering dog = me

Posted by Elizabeth Frost on Wed Oct 22nd, 2008, 1 comments

No, i wasn’t clobbered by a big slobbering dog today at the track: I was the slobbering dog. Skipped the track yesterday cause work had me at the office till too late… if I had gone I would have been running in the dark, which I don’t want to do… So, I decided to head [...]

track is starting to grow on me…

Posted by Elizabeth Frost on Wed Oct 15th, 2008, 0 comments

so it’s a day late but hardly a dollar short. It’s been freakishly warm here the last couple days and yesterday was no exception… and since you all know how much i relish running in warm weather, i decided to forego the track workout yesterday and went this morning instead… 6.30 came early and i [...]

Track is not my friend

Posted by Elizabeth Frost on Tue Oct 7th, 2008, 0 comments

I did my track workout today. At least I tried. I was supposed to run 4x600m with 200m jog breaks, but I could barely get through the warm up. I went after work to the track; the weather was fine but the PEOPLE! There were ‘kids’ everywhere — students of UNCA, some playing frisbee, some [...]

no work, all play

Posted by Elizabeth Frost on Tue Sep 30th, 2008, 0 comments

Took the day off today and went over to the track this morning to do my track workout run. Over all, it went well… I guess I am on Week 7 now of the 10 week program (I will have some extra time after this to keep training, but this is the schedule for now…) [...]
