"The Beginning is the Seed of All that is to Follow" - I Ching
Happy New Year to you. We send you best wishes for great health and happiness in 2009.
We know that these are challenging times. Practicing the Chi-Skills is ever more important these days: Focusing Your Mind, Body Sensing, Breathing and Relaxation. As you practice these skills while ChiRunning or ChiWalking and during the day, you will find that they help you cope with stressful situations. You can truly become a master of your self in any situation.
You’ll find information about how to practice these skills in the ChiRunning and ChiWalking books. Reread that chapter and use these skills whenever you feel overwhelmed or tense from the daily news. Of course, we know there is nothing better for stress management than exercise. Try some of the calming or meditative walks in the ChiWalking book.
Together we can get through these times and come out stronger and better than ever. This month’s article reminds us that every day is a fresh, new start and has within it the potential for positive growth.
ChiRunning and ChiWalking staff will be at several upcoming events. Visit Danny at our booth at the Disneyworld Marathon this coming weekend, Jan. 8-10. He’ll be speaking several times and he’ll be running the Goofy Challenge; a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. He’s planning on running about an 8 minute pace. Visit him at the booth to meet up with him before the events.
We’ll also have staff and a booth at the Phoenix Rock ‘n Roll Marathon the weekend of Jan 16-18. Danny will also be speaking at the New England MultiSport event in Boston the weekend of March 21-22. We hope to see you there.
Again, best wishes for a great 2009 and as always, thank you for spreading the word about ChiRunning and ChiWalking.

A Recipe for Success
"The Beginning is the Seed of All that is to Follow" - I Ching
Every time you start something – day, a run, a walk, a new habit of any kind, a New Year – the way you start that activity will have a profound effect on the outcome.
It is a new year. Every day is a new day and every run has the potential for a realization that will change the way you run forever. Every walk you take can bring you closer to great health and energy.
The awareness and focus that you put into the beginning of any activity can make all the difference. What do you do before you start a run? Think about it. Do you have an intention for how you want to feel after the run? Do you have a clear enough sense of your own body so that you know what it is you need from your run? Beginning an activity with awareness and intention deepens your experience, insures success, and offers the promise of long term, positive effects. Your New Year’s resolutions have this same potential.

Testimonial
Each month we share a testimonial from one of our students. Here is one about ChiRunning from Mike W.:
As I reflect on the past year, I know that despite the gloomy forecast of the economy, and the disappointing aspects of the recession -- I have something in my life that beats the odds of the stock market and that is... Chi Running. ChiRunning has changed my perspective on life, I appreciate the value of using my own energy in a running style. I was at a Starbucks in Leisure World, a retirement community in Silver Spring Maryland, and I overheard a conversation that a woman in her early seventies said to two other friends. She said,"I'd like to run, but I can't!" I politely walked over and said to this lovely woman that if she really wanted to run, that ChiRunning might possibly give her the technique to run again.
