ChiRunning and ChiWalking

An acre of performance is worth a whole world of promise.
— Red Auerbach

Dear Friends,

The theme of personal performance is still on all of our minds here at Chi Living. Danny is training for the Air Force Marathon on September 18th. He’s giving a free talk about Chi Running and will be at the booth at the expo before the marathon. We hope we’ll see you there.

Danny just ran the Asheville Half Marathon course for his training and was feeling very good about his personal performance. He’s right on target to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Read this month’s articles about the Chi Living perspective on Personal Performance, written both from a Chi Running and a Chi Walking perspective. It’s not just about times and speed, it’s about deciding what quality of life means to you and feeling that quality in every workout and in everything you do.

The 2011 Chi Running & Chi Walking Daily Fitness Journal is now available and provides excellent support for those who practice the Chi Running and Chi Walking techniques. The Daily fitness Journal helps you track your progress and keeps you motivated to practice your best technique during every workout. It’s also a great gift.

Danny crossed the Canadian border this weekend and held a very successful talk and workshop in Ottawa. Our Instructors in Ottawa were a great help. Thank you to everyone who attended the talk and workshop and to those who offered a helping hand!

Certified Instructor Training courses are filling fast, so we just added another course: June 9-12, 2011. Find out more about becoming a Certified Instructor and come spend time with us at our home base in Asheville, NC.

Danny is teaching a one day workshop in Asheville on Sept. 11. Just seeing Asheville is worth the visit:

“This thriving mountain city features a funky and eclectic downtown, 30-plus art galleries downtown alone, a burgeoning culinary scene, a thriving live music scene and, of course, the awe-inspiring scenery of the Appalachian Mountains.”

As always, thanks for your incredible support. It means so much to us.

– Katherine, Danny and the Chi Living Team

Christina Thomas Christina Thomas Am brand new to Chi Running, but have already shaved 3 minutes off my 60 minute run, got rid of my knee pain and no longer puff like a steam engine while I run!

                 So far am loving it!

August's Instructor Tips

From Certified Instructor of the Month Kari Wilkinson

Nasal Breathing can be used when walking or running to move air through nasal passages on both the inhale and exhale. This type of breathing should first be practiced during lower aerobic capacity workouts, so that shortness of breath is minimal. As you become more proficient with the technique, you can incorporate it during more aerobically demanding walks and runs.

Chi Running / Chi Walking Testimonial

Here’s a testimonial from Ron K. in Texas, who finds himself amazed at the ease and feel of the Chi Running technique:

My story - 60 year old male; occasional exercise runner for 5 years, and a more dedicated exercise runner for the past 18 months. My constant lower back and lower leg pains limited my workouts (street running) and I had a truly difficult time running beyond 30 minutes, even though I am in good shape (5’ 9", 146 lbs.).
