About Mary

Missing Image

Mary’s had a passion for running since 1977 when she competed in the first women’s AAU National Marathon in Minnesota. She loves the marathon distance and participated in the Avon Women’s Marathon series to help get the women’s marathon in the 1984 Olympics. Mary has run 30 marathons, including the historic 100th Boston Marathon, and countless shorter races. She was often sidelined over the years with chronic knee pain due to IT Band Syndrome, however. Mary is delighted to report that her knee pain disappeared since starting the ChiRunning® form, her joy of running is back, and she is running marathons again.  Her times are getting faster as her ChiRunning form continues to improve.  She often finishes at or near the top of her age group and qualified for the 2009 Boston marathon with 16 minutes to spare.   Mary retired from the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Management and now is teaching running rather than finance. She’s excited about her new career and sharing her knowledge with others. Mary has been personally trained by Danny Dreyer (founder of ChiRunning®) and awarded the title Certified ChiRunning® Instructor in January, 2005, Certified ChiWalking Instructor in October 2005, and Master ChiRunning and ChiWalking Instructor in November 2007.  Mary has assisted Danny Dreyer in teaching ChiRunning workshops throughout the United States, Costa Rica, and Ireland.  She also travelled with the Dreyers to China in December 2007 to attend the Tai Chi Camp organized by George Xu which was an amazing opportunity to learn more about applying the principles of Tai Chi to ChiRunning.  Mary now lives in the Denver area and teaches workshops throughout the United States and Mexico, so give her a call if you have a group interested in learning ChiRunning.  She also offers coaching to individuals and small groups.
